1st Financial Bank USA wants to celebrate those who recognize the importance of pursuing educational and financial goals with the 1st Financial Bank USA Financial Goals Scholarship.
The Lewis Scholarship, which began in 2023, provides free housing and a monthly stipend to support student journalists of color who plan to intern at news media outlets in Washington, D.C. Applicants must be a college junior or senior and identify as a person of color. Graduating seniors may apply for this scholarship if their internship takes place in the semester immediately following graduation. Applicants must enroll in online classes during their time in Washington, D.C. Applicants must submit links to three published journalistic work samples. These should be working URLs that are not behind a paywall. Three letters of recommendation from those familiar with the applicant's work ethic, academic success, and/or career interests must also be submitted. A letter or email of acceptance showing the applicant has secured an on-site journalism internship in Washington, D.C., to take place during Fall 2024 is also required.
