The Juilliard School, founded in 1905, is a private conservatory of the performing arts. Since its opening in October 1905 as the Institute of Musical Art, the school has established this country''s standard for education in the arts. Dr. Frank Damrosch and James Loeb created an institute that gave the fledgling classical music culture in the United States its first academy committed to the finest professional training of skilled musicians. Since 1968, Juilliard has been the academic constituent of Lincoln Center. Juilliard continues to represent the finest in performing arts education, growing with and responding to the needs of a thriving cultural community in the U.S. and abroad, its student body drawn from 45 states and 50 foreign countries. Its campus is located at Lincoln Center in New York City''s west side.
